How to limit comments on tiktok
Keeping your account safe on TikTok is important. One way to do this is to limit comments on your TikTok posts. Account Settings are the main way to do this, as they give you the power to control who can comment and how often.
In this section, we’ll discuss how to use these settings to limit comments on your posts:
- Open the Account Settings menu.
- Select the Comments option.
- Choose the comments settings that best fit your needs.
- Save your settings.
Disable comments on your profile
TikTok is a great place to show off your creativity, but you also need to be aware of how your content is being interacted with. To keep control of one aspect of the site, users have the option to disable comments on their profile, which will limit people from being able to comment on their videos. Here are some tips for managing this setting and ensuring that your account remains safe and secure.
- When disabling comments on your profile, first go into “Settings” and then select “Privacy & Safety”. From this page, you can find the “Comments” section that will give you the ability to disable them or set them up so only those people you approve can comment.
- It’s important to check if any type of offensive, demeaning or inappropriate language appears regularly in comments from others – whether it’s directed at yourself or someone else in the video. If it does, choose not to allow comments on that specific video.
- Before disabling all comments on your profile, consider implementing more specific restrictions such as username mute or keyword filter – these settings give some control back by allowing you to decide which words are not allowed in comments.
- If you receive a large number of unwelcome messages in your inbox via other channels such as email or SMS then disable all comments since this may mean they have access to contact details like phone numbers or emails associated with your account.
- Finally remember that if anyone has already seen a particular video and has left inappropriate messages before features such as disabling comments were enabled then take screenprints and contact support who may be able to help with taking down unwanted content.
Disable comments on individual videos
When you upload a video to TikTok, it’s important to set the right privacy settings. While many users post with the intention of allowing comments, there may be times when you want to limit commenting on an individual video. You can easily disable comments on individual videos by following these steps:
- Access your profile by tapping on your profile photo in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the three-dots icon next to the video you want to edit.
- Select ‘Edit’ from the pop-up menu and then tap ‘Advanced Settings’.
- Next, select ‘Comments’ and change the setting from ‘Enabled’ to ‘Disabled’.
- Finally, tap ‘Save’ for your changes to take effect.
By disabling comments on individual videos, you can control who reacts to them and their conversation history in a more private environment. If you would like more control over who can comment and view your content, we recommend that you switch to Private Account mode. This will limit interaction with unknown accounts and provide added privacy when posting content online.
Content Settings
TikTok’s content settings offer you a range of options to limit comments on your video posts. You can choose to hide all comments, or only show comments from people you follow, or even control who can comment on your posts based on their age or location. You can also block certain words and phrases from appearing in the comments section.
Let’s explore the various content settings available on TikTok and how they can help to limit unwanted comments:
- Hiding all comments
- Showing comments from people you follow
- Controlling who can comment based on age or location
- Blocking certain words and phrases from appearing in the comments section
Utilize “Restricted” mode
When it comes to managing content settings on the popular social media platform, TikTok, users have the option to restrict certain features of their account. This setting can be found in the “Privacy and Safety” section of the app’s settings page. If a user opts to enable “Restricted Mode”, they will be able to control who can interact with the content they share on the app, as well as limit any unwanted offensive or inappropriate comments made by other users.
In addition to discouraging unwanted comments, “Restricted Mode” can also be used as a way to protect minors from inappropriate content. Once enabled, TikTok automatically filters out potentially offensive or age-inappropriate content uploaded by other users. This setting also prevents adults from posting inappropriate content that is not suitable for children and teens.
- Controls who can interact with content shared on the app
- Limits unwanted offensive or inappropriate comments
- Protects minors from inappropriate content
- Prevents adults from posting inappropriate content
The “Restricted” setting allows users to customize their own experience and is effective at limiting any unwelcome comments directed at them or their viewers when sharing videos online. By taking control of how others interact with their account, TikTok users are better able to ensure that their online space remains safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Set comment moderation
Content settings on TikTok allow you to limit comments and filter out words or phrases that you do not want to appear on your videos. This can be done manually for individual videos, or globally for all of your posts.
To manually set comment moderation for an individual video:
- Tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the video.
- Select “Comments” from the menu, then tap “Moderate Comments”.
- You will have a selection of options available: Moderate words, moderate usernames and moderate more complicated expressions (regex).
- Choose your levels of moderation to customize how comments are handled in that post.
To globally set comment moderation:
- Go to your Profile Settings by tapping on the Profile icon at the bottom right of the app.
- Click “Content Settings”. From here you can select which type of content you want to moderate across all your posts – this includes words, usernames and more complicated expressions (regex).
- Once you have made your selection, click “Save” at the bottom right of the page to apply it across all posts.
These settings help prevent unwanted comments from appearing on your content, allowing you to protect yourself from malicious intent or language that might be considered offensive by other viewers. They also help foster an environment that is conducive to meaningful conversations instead of trolling and spamming.
Block certain words
For those who want more control over the comments they receive on their TikTok videos, blocking certain words is a great option. This allows you to prevent explicit or offensive language from appearing on your post, ensuring that all comments are appropriate for the audience.
- Open the TikTok app
- Go to “Settings” then “Comments Settings”
- Select “Block Certain Words”
Here you can add any keywords or phrases that you would like to be blocked from your content and saved so that it is applied across all of your future posts. By editing these settings constantly, you can guarantee that only positive, respectful conversations are happening in your comment section!
Social Settings
By modifying your account’s social settings, you can limit comments on TikTok and control who can interact with your account. This article will discuss the different settings you can use to control comment access and how to customize these settings to achieve the desired level of control.

Block users
One of the clearest steps you can take to limit the comments on your TikTok posts is to block other users. Blocking certain users prevents them from commenting or reacting to your posts, ensuring a more positive environment for your content. To block a user:
- Tap the comment area of their post
- Select the avatar with three dots to open the comment menu
- Select “Report & Block“
- Toggle on “Block [username]” and submit
This will stop any further communication with them and ensure they will not be able to comment or react to any of your content—it’s also a clear signal that you don’t want interaction. It may also be beneficial to delete existing comments from blocked users if they do not apply with your community guidelines. If you feel uncertain about how to handle particular comments, please report them directly to TikTok’s moderation team via its in-app tools.
Restrict messages
TikTok is a great way to stay connected with friends and to share creative tasks, but it can also put you at risk for being exposed to unwanted contact from strangers. To ensure your safety, it’s important to be mindful of who has access to your posts and comments as well as using the privacy settings TikTok offers.
One of the most effective ways to limit messages is by enabling “Restrict Messages” in your account settings. When enabled, you will only allow messages and comments from followers that you have already approved. This gives other users the assurance that they will not be receiving unwanted messages or comments, while still keeping those they know able to communicate with them through direct messages.
To enable this setting:
- Tap on “Me” in the bottom tab bar
- Choose “Settings” and select “Privacy and Settings”
- Scroll down and tap on “Privacy”
- Scroll down again and tap on “Message Restriction”
- Select “Only people I follow can message me”
From here, you can evaluate all pending requests for followership before allowing any users who have requested to follow your account. By enabling “Restrict Messages” in your account settings, you ensure that whomever interacts with you on TikTok is someone trusted.
Limit who can comment
If you are receiving repetitive comments or want to focus just on the feedback from friends and followers, you can control who can comment on your posts. On TikTok, you have the option to either approve who can comment directly or block comments for your post entirely.
To limit who can comment:
- Go to your profile
- Open settings by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner
- Select Privacy and Settings from the menu
- Scroll down to Comment Controls and select it
- Choose who can comment with either Everyone or Friends as an option
- Click Save at the top of your page
Now when someone wants to leave a comment, they will receive a notification that their comments need to be approved by you before it is visible on your post. If someone has been blocked, then their chat request will not appear for you at all. With this feature, you regain control over who is able to engage in conversations associated with your posts and discover a more personalized way of interacting with other TikTok users.
Reporting
Reporting can be an effective tool for limiting comments on TikTok. If you are seeing comments that are offensive, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate, you can use the reporting tools that TikTok provides to help keep your account safe. This section will go over the steps you can take to report comments that are inappropriate and guidelines for when and how to do it.
- Understand the types of content that are prohibited on TikTok
- Evaluate the comment you wish to report
- Tap on the comment to open the menu
- Select the “Report” option
- Choose a category that best describes the comment
- Confirm the report
- Be aware of your own biases when reporting comments
- Only report comments that violate the Community Guidelines
- Be respectful of other users
Report inappropriate comments
TikTok encourages users to flag or report comments that violate its Community Guidelines or Terms of Use. When users flag or report a potentially inappropriate comment, it is immediately hidden from view and forwarded to TikTok for analysis. This allows for quicker removal of posts that do not meet TikTok’s standards.
If you find a comment on TikTok inappropriate, you can report it as follows:
- Tap the comment you wish to report and select the flag icon on the bottom right of the popup window.
- Select the reason for reporting from one of several options provided by TikTok; these include hate speech, bullying, harassment, child endangerment, suicide and self-harm encouragement, sexual content, spam/advertising and other policy violations.
- Enter any additional details (if available) and tap ‘Confirm Report’ at the bottom of the page when finished entering information.
- Submit your evaluation request so that a moderation representative can act on it shortly afterwards.
It’s important to remember that reporting posts will not always result in them being taken down — only those considered to be violating TikTok’s policies and Community Guidelines can be removed or hidden from public view permanently.
Report spam or abusive content
Any content or behaviour that violates the Community Guidelines should be reported to our moderation team. Reporting posts, comments, or other content on TikTok helps ensure that our community remains safe and enjoyable.
To submit a report:
- Open the post that you want to report.
- Tap the “…” icon at the bottom right of the screen.
- Select “Report” and follow the instructions outlined in the pop-up window.
We take reports seriously and may reach out for additional information if required. Please note that any information you provide will remain anonymous and will not be shared with anyone outside of our moderation team. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Flag comments that violate policies
For content that violates our Community Guidelines or terms of use, users can flag or report the offending video or comment to our moderation team in order to create a safer and more positive environment. To report offending content, users can flag any comment they believe violates TikTok’s policies by tapping on the three-dot menu icon next to the comment and selecting ‘Report Post’.
In some cases, users may be shown an option to block a profile before moving forward with the report process. Blocking a profile will prevent that user from seeing any of your future posts and will also prevent them from commenting on your posts or sending you private messages. Users who are blocked cannot view or interact with any content you post in the future unless you unblock them.
For every reported user post and comment, we also offer options for nudge or warn users if their activity potentially violates our policies. For example, if a user posts something deemed inappropriate by another user, that user is shown an alerting message asking them to evaluate their content prior to its visibility on TikTok (so long as it adheres to policy).
- We are constantly updating our scrubbing algorithms with new technological advancements and plan improvements in order to help ensure comments comply with our moderation guidelines and community standards.
- Our goal is not only to deter inappropriate behavior but also promote meaningful conversations between all of our users.
